The Beauty of Disconnecting

This assignment is surprisingly one that is somewhat regular for me, and honestly, not a very difficult one at that. I've spent numerous long term spans of time in third world countries in which the United States technology, social media, and internet services do not reach those places unless you go to extreme measures. Similarly, this weekend I spent my time leading a High School youth group retreat through Blackhawk Church, in Madison. We took off on Friday morning at 7 AM on charter busses, and I knew that by the time we got to the camp in Detroit Lakes, MN, it would be time to disconnect. Conveniently, leaders were to collect all electronics from the students as soon as we arrived to the camp. With that said, I didn't want to be a hypocrite, so I too, vowed to not use my phone for purposes other than emergency calls and for an alarm. Luckily, I didn't have to make any emergency calls, so I managed to go the whole weekend without utilizing my phone for any social media, texting, calling, or applications. At the end of the assignment, I turned my phone off of airplane mode and realized that I didn't miss the constant buzzing, ringing, or beeping one bit.
Saturday's Sunset
Saturday's Sunrise

The only thing I used it for was to take pictures of some of the most beautiful sunset and sunrises I've ever seen. With that said, I decided to share them with you. If you ask me, the breaking of the disconnect for these pictures was well worth it.
