Manpower

When I got onto the website, I figured I would search for jobs around my hometown. I was expecting to find more permanent affluent area type jobs. However many of them were temporary and consisted mostly of assistants, general laborers, and customer service type positions. For many of these jobs you do not need many technical skills.

As I went deeper in the search results I found many more entry level jobs that included data entry and analysis positions, which would require more technical skills. I wouldn't personally want any of these jobs coming out of college just because I feel that my skill set (which I have invested many hours and dollars in) would not be utilized.

I also looked up jobs in the Madison area. I found many of the same types of jobs, in addition there were a lot of retail jobs. My assumption is the state street area played some influence into this. They were also mostly temporary.

The final area I looked into was NYC. Here they were almost all contract positions, but many had the tile associate. However, when I looked more into those jobs, they were really just assigning jobs and devices and trips to other people.

Overall its a really helpful site to find a job if you have been out of the workforce, didn't graduate college, or are in need or a part time or short term gig. I wouldn't use the site to find my first job however.

  1. I agree with the your opinion about who the audience of the website is. I don't think people who are highly qualified with a college degree would be searching for a job on this website. However, I think that this website is a useful tool for those who aren't as qualified. There is a lot of information about the jobs at a person's disposal, and I think this a useful tool for specific people.

  2. I would also have to agree with what you said about the website not appealing to you. I feel societal pressure as well as pressure from myself to get a job that allows me to utilize the skills that i have spent time and money on over the past four years. But I think this is a great website for people who either do not have a college degree, or people who simply are interested in these types of jobs. Its cool how different around the country offer different types of jobs, and so there is a lot of opportunities on this website available to people.
