Throughout the weekend, I rarely used Facebook and Twitter (maybe once a day). One of the reasons for this was simply because I was preoccupied all weekend for it being Halloween, but I also did not use these social media sites as a way to contact my friends. Instead, I resorted to texting. I tried to use my phone sparingly, only sending texts when something was important rather than having a long conversation with someone.
In one of my high school sociology projects, we had a similar extra credit assignment. The goal of the assignment was to go 5 days (Monday-Friday) without our cellphones. To make things fair, if we participated in the extra credit requirement we had to hand our phones into the teacher. We were allowed to withdrawal from the assignment at any time and receive our phone back, but then we would not receive the extra credit. About half of my class did the assignment, including me. I found it much easier to go without my phone during the week because I was less likely to make plans with my friends as opposed to the weekend. I made it all 5 days and when I finally got my phone back, it felt almost weird connecting to everyone through technology again.
