Disconnected

This assignment was truly unlike any other I have been assigned in my college career. I spent this weekend in Dayton, Ohio for the regional soccer tournament for my club team. We left on friday and had about a 7 hour drive both ways, so I took this assignment as a challenge for me and my teammates I drove with. We only had music playing and the only use of phones was for navigation because obviously we didn't want to get lost. We played games and told stories and I was pleasantly surprised because I found out things I didn't know about these girls and I feel like we are closer because of that so that was nice. We arrived late at night and went straight to bed because we were all exhausted.
Saturday it wasn't very difficult to stay away from technology because the majority of the day was spent at the soccer fields. It was different for me because I felt like I had to stick to at least one person like glue in order to not get left behind and find out the information I needed to because everything we need is communicated through text or Facebook. I hope I didn't annoy my team too much. After a day of soccer we had a team dinner which was nice to bond with people and not stare at a screen and ignore what is is front of me.
Sunday was a different story though, because it was my birthday. I decided to check my phone when we weren't playing games so I could thank people for birthday wishes and talk with friends and relatives. I didn't want to take away from my day!
I feel like this assignment would have been completely different if I was here for halloween and freakfest. But I enjoyed friday and saturday, even though I did find myself feeling for my phone and wanting to check social media and such. Despite this, I don't think I would disconnect willingly on my own, because everything in our lives is on the internet and technology is necessary. It is a fascinating concept, I simply don't think it is possible or realistic in today's advanced society, especially for a college student.
