Before email, my mom had a person in her office called a "carrier" which went around to all the employees desks, picked up and delivered the mail they needed sent to other people within the office. Obviously, this was replaced with email. The computer made her job exponentially easier. Communicating with coworkers was a very quick process and presentations became easier. After my mom started to utilize computers, her job was much less stressful and easier to manage.
It is a different experience listening to what the world was like before computers were involved in our working lives. I can't imagine writing a paper without being able to google some questions I have. It really makes you appreciate just how easy we have it with all this information and the ability to get it efficiently. We take all these easy forms of communication for granted and we need to appreciate the fact that those older than us had much more difficult jobs before the computer was implemented in the majority of jobs.
