Madison, Wisconsin
Most of these jobs were not permanent. In fact, only 2 of the jobs were listed as permanent. Surprisingly, most of the positions did not require any level of college competition, just high school graduation or GED. I found that most salaries were not listed, but the ones that were had wages varying from minimum wage to $12/hour.
Crystal Lake, Illinois
While this is not my home town, it is about 15 minutes from my house. It is not a large city, but it is very developed in comparison to my town. Like Madison, the listed job positions were not much. The jobs were mostly temporary or contract based, with vague requirements such as "hardworking". Only 2 jobs required some college, and a few preferred college education. Before this search, I figured that jobs in Madison would have a higher demand for college degrees, being a college town, but I was shocked to see the number of job positions that did not require any degree.
Clearwater, Florida
12 jobs were listed in Clearwater. Every single one of these jobs was listed as contract. However, a lot of these jobs had a specific degree as a requirement. For those that only required a high school diploma or GED equivalent, many years of experience are required in the field, most commonly 5-7 years.
I found this search to be very shocking. I did not expect to find only these types of job openings. With more of the population obtaining a degree, jobs positions requiring less skill and schooling are going unfilled. A lot of factory wages had wages listed at much above minimum wage, although they do not require much schooling and/or experience. Like we have mentioned in discussion, some people can be very well off without even going to college. People tend to automatically associate a college degree with a higher paying job, but sometimes this is not the case, especially at entry level jobs right after graduating college.
