Manpower

Madison, WI
When I used the job search from Manpower for Madison 11 jobs were given. The site noted that 2 were permanent positions, 2 were temporary positions, and the other 7 were not listed. While I was looking through the different jobs given I noticed some common skills between the 11 jobs. These skills included responsibility and reliability, along with being able to maintain a clean and organized work place, paying attention to detail, and knowing common packing techniques. Overall the jobs seemed decent. For those that listed the pay rate, they were all above minimum wage.

Milwaukee, WI
Next, I searched my hometown area. I was given 57 jobs, 24 being permanent positions, 13 temporary, and the rest not specifically listed. When looking through the jobs, I noticed that a good amount of them were warehouse/factory jobs. This doesn't surprise me because being from Milwaukee, I know that there are a lot of factories and warehouses, especially around the city. I also looked into some of the skills for the jobs listed. Some popular ones were being able to work in a team and communicate efficiently, understanding written and oral directions, and being a face-paced worker. Although a majority of the jobs were labor-intensive factory/warehouse jobs, the pay was again above minimum wage.

San Francisco, CA
Lastly, I searched a city that I would potentially like to live in in the future. After searching San Francisco, 8 jobs appeared. 1 of the 8 showed up as temporary, the rest were not listed. The temporary job listed also included an extra note saying that they are looking for someone to hire ASAP. It was a cooking position. About have of the listed jobs were warehouse jobs, consisting in skills like counting and inventory along with good costumer service skills.

After searching these three cities, I noticed that a majority of the jobs I found were warehouse jobs. This didn't surprise me because warehouse are known to be everywhere and have a lot of employers. What was interesting was that the pay was fairly high, not even starting at minimum wage. Usually for a warehouse job you don't need much intensive schooling, so it was odd that people with not a lot of education are able to still get a decent job that pays well for the type of employees usually hired.

  1. I also found it very interesting that warehouse jobs had high wages with such few requirements! When I searched Madison, I was shocked to find that there were only 11 jobs listed. With being a decently large city, I guess I just assumed there would be more opportunities for employment.

  2. I also was not surprised by the amount of warehouse jobs considering the sheer number of employees warehouses typically need. For some reason, I was expecting more job openings in San Francisco, though. We tend to think the majority of jobs available are those our parents and family friends hold which are probably not manufacturing oriented, which isn't too realistic.
