MemexSim: The Memex Simulator

I visited a website, MemexSim that is / was a work-in-progress to be a Memex simulation.  The creator, Trevor F. Smith, was looking to make the simulator function as close to the way that Bush had described in "As We May Think" to bring to realization the view of IT in the 1940's.  Though the descriptions of the parts of the Memex are laid out extensively, it looks like Smith never followed through with actually completing the code for the project / site.  I was a little disappointed in this as the site initially looked promising and I was hoping to see what he would do with it!  Though I think the single screenshot image may have been the entirety of what he was trying to simulate...

However, it seems that while Smith gave up on this he redirected his efforts into making a real operating Memex, Memex #001!  It is pictured below and according to the site Trevor Smith "fabricated the Memex #001, a machine which looks and acts like it was built in 1945 to Dr. Bush's specification." It is pictured below.

On another note, I did some hyperlink following of this Trevor Smith - seems like a super intelligent, quirky guy.  I was looking up some of his own projects...many of which stumbled me into code that I have no idea what it means.  However, I found he co-founded a design and engineering studio, podipo, which looked pretty neat.  And also he created a program called MoreMemory which enables you to create a personal timeline of your life (or whatever).  I tried to download it but it seemingly didn't work, bummer.
