Book Choice: "Beyond Texting: the fine Art of Face-to-Face Communication for Teenagers"

I was deciding between three similar social media based books. First I looked into “You Posted What!?: How to Help Your Teen Use Social Media to Gain an Advantage for College and Future Employment” By Tiffany Sunday. It costs $10 and is 148 pages long. Next I looked into “Beyond Texting: the Fine Art of Face-to-Face Communication for Teenagers” by Debra Fine. This book costs $11 and is 136 pages long. Last, I considered the book “Social Networking: The Ultimate Teen Guide” by Jennifer Obee. The cost of this book is much cheaper than the others, coming in at a dirt cheap $2. However, this book is a decent amount longer than the other two, coming in at 260 pages. Every book had a nice slew of reviews, but the ones that stuck out to me were the ones regarding the book “Beyond Texting”. First of all, it had the most reviews coming in with 43 of them. The top reviews spoke very highly of this book insinuating it was a must read for anyone who is a teen involved in social media or a parent of one.
“You posted what!?” returned no results when searching both World Cat for and Library thing. It also had zero reviews on Google Books. “Beyond Texting” had 145 libraries with the book in stock, yet could not be found on Library Thing. It also had no reviews on Google Books. “Social Networking: The Ultimate Teenage Guide” could be found in 184 libraries, had no results on Library Thing, and had an e-book available on Google books, but no had no reviews.

I chose the book “Beyond Texting: the Fine Art of Face-to-Face Communication for Teenagers” by Deborah Fine as the book for my project. However, I couldn’t find this book in either ProQuest or Project Muse. I plan on searching through other sites to find reviews to use for my project.

  1. Just from looking at the cover of this book, I can tell that it will be totally relevant to our class. It'll be interesting to hear a professional's opinion on how communication with younger generations has changed with the development of technology.

  2. this book immediately caught my attention, because it is so relevant to our generation, and even more to the ones a few years younger than us. They rely on texting and the internet to communicate and are almost socially incompetent. This is definitely an interesting choice!
