Apparently I do a great job at hiding my profiles and things, because I barely came up with anything regarding my online existence. When I searched my geographical self in county data bases and such, I found very basic information. This included my home address, where my parents included me on their census. It also included my age and date of birth. In connection with other people, it only showed 3 of my 4 immediate family members. This is probably due to the fact that my younger brother is under the age of 18 still, but I still found it odd. In terms of searching my name on social media sites under a different profile, my name would come up but not much else about me or my profile.
When I searched myself in google, almost nothing came up that was in any way related to the 'actual' Lauren Woods I was searching for. When I tried my email, the first search result that came up was the Pi Beta Phi Wisconsin Alpha website, where I am listed as VPM and my email is listed there. It then also listed anyone who was on the executive board with me. My phone number also didn't bring anything up of interest.
Overall, I am a really boring person to search for on the internet.
I think it's interesting that you mention the people you are connected to excluded your brother because he isn't 18 yet. I did not show up under the census at all and even when I searched under my mom's name I still didn't show up even though I'm 19! I found the same thing when I searched for just my name under Google, but when I added something else personal about me, more things related to me showed up. It's crazy how the Internet filters through everyone that is using the web!
ReplyDeleteI never thought that certain things could be hidden due to age. You brought up a really cool point that since your brother is under 18, that could be the reason why he was not showing up as being connected to you. It's really interesting to see how the privacy settings actually work, because I too couldn't find much information about myself!
