After performing a Google search on the word "memex", I came across an animation on YouTube that demonstrated a memex. I found the video to be very helpful because while reading the articles, I could not picture exactly what a memex was. When I first thought of a memex in my head, I thought of something similar to a tablet or an e-reader. The memex was designed as a "database" that seemed to focus on books and documents- which is why I thought of something portable used for reading.
It's interesting to look back to a time before the internet was invented, and see what people had visualized for the future. Technology has made a huge leap in improvement and it is crazy to think that someone like Bush was able to make accurate predictions (for the most part) about technology today. I find it interesting that advancements in technology are made on a daily basis which can ultimately result in the fear of "getting behind" in technology just because you don't have the newest version of some form of technology.
I saw that video as well, and I agree, it was really helpful to picture it. I don't think i really knew what it was supposed to look like by the description, and I definitely did not picture it to look like an actual desk. Like you, I just assumed it would be something a lot smaller like a portable reader. It was very interesting to watch that video though. It seems so crazy to me that he was able to invent something like that in his mind so long ago, and then the same theory of it is what we use every day.
