Book Choice: Closer Together, Further Apart

I started my search on Amazon.com and looked up terms such as "social media's effect on society" and "social technology and society." Eventually I came up with 3 candidates for my book choice: Closer Together, Further Apart, Alone Together: Why We Expect More From Technology and Less From Each Other, and Technocreep: The Surrender of Privacy and the Capitalization of Intimacy. I then went to WorldCat to look up how many libraries carried the books and their related subjects. Next I went to Google Books to see whether they were in the public domain and whether they had any reviews through Google. The last site I browsed was Library Thing for popularity.

  1. Closer Together, Further Apart (Copyright 2014)

    • Subject Terms: Internet --Social Aspects, Technological Innovations --Social Aspects, Interpersonal Relations, Social Media, Internet and Families
    • Not in the public domain, no google reviews

  2. Alone Together: Why We Expect More From Technology and Less From Each Other (Copyright 2012)
    • 384 pages, $9.85, 4 star review with 145 customer reviews
    • Found in 2,195 libraries
    • Subject terms: Information Technology --Social Aspects, Human-computer Interaction, Interpersonal Relations, Social Networking
    • In the public domain, reviews through Google but only 2 stars
    • 561 members added this book on Library Thing
  3. Technocreep: The Surrender of Privacy and the Capitalization of Intimacy (Copyright 2014)
    • 224 pages, $13.22, 5 star review with 1 customer review
    • Found in 28 libraries
    • Subject terms: Information Technology -- Social Aspects, Electronic Surveillance, Privacy, Right of.
    • In the public domain, no reviews through Google.
    • 3 members added this book on Library Thing

After researching these books through many different filters I've decided to choose Closer Together, Further Apart. Although it clearly doesn't have the same popularity as Alone Together, it has a more recent publishing date, good reviews, and the book summary seems intriguing. I did not find any scholarly reviews through my database searches.
