The App Generation

I found this homework assignment actually quite difficult. It was hard for me to look on Amazon to find just one book to read. I first found three interesting books, Writing on the Wall: Social Media - The first 2,000 years, The App Generation, and Dataclysm, but after researching into these books I continued to find others that also looked really interesting.

I ended up choosing one of the original three I had found: The App Generation. To find these books, I started on Amazon and looked into the category, Computers & Technology. These three interested me because they all had good reviews. I was most interested in Dataclysm  but I ran into the same problem Kelsey did because there wasn't as many scholarly sources about the book compared to the others.

The App Generation is about the youth's involvement in social media. I chose this book because it outlines the ways in which apps affect the youth's lives in their identity, intimacy, and imagination in both positive and negative ways. I think this book will be interesting because it is very relatable and is probably something that we expect to see for a very long time in the future.

  1. It seems like this book will be very interesting to read because of how directly it relates to our lives. The majority, if not all of us in this class probably have smart phones, and we use them to constantly stay connected and communicate with people. I know I personally have around four or five different social media apps that I use. Whether or not we would like to admit it, these apps, and our constant need to network and be connected is impacting our lives. I bet it will be interesting to read what researchers have found in terms of the positive and negative influences social media has on people, beyond those that we already know.
