The first result when I looked up
hybrid courses was the website for UW – Milwaukee’s program. They listed the
reasoning behind employing hybrid courses in their curriculum. They say doing
so gives them new teaching opportunities, engages students, and increases
student learning. These are all very similar to the reasons gave for this
course being hybrid.
I think hybrid courses are a nice
change with the way classes are typically conducted. It taught me how to run
online searches for materials relevant to the class I was in. I was better able
to understand the material and how it relates to lecture with real life
applications. However, I do not think this would have the same effect in other
classes not related to the information society. Classes like science and
history would have a less meaningful way of incorporating the online aspects in
the way LIS manages to.
I agree with what you said about how the internet aspects would not be as effective for other classes as it was for this. I think that the use of the blog and wiki really enhanced this class, especially since we learned about the use of social media and the Internet. With another class, an Internet element would not add much to the content being taught, but in this class we were able to actually use what we were learning about.
