I asked my mother over the weekend what technology was most important for her job and she said the computer. My mother is a receptionist at a hospital where she checks in patients, answers emails, and sets up appointments. For all of these tasks she relies on the computer. She mentioned that one day their entire computer system shutdown and they could barely do anything. The computer is their organization tool in the hospital. Without it they wouldn't be able to know who has an appointment when and what for.
Another reason my mother really enjoys having a computer as her main technology for her job is because for about 2 years her boss let her work from home. As long as my mother had a working computer and would be checking her emails often, they didn't mind her staying at home and working off the computer.
